Secret #6: Weed Out Posers

The most important piece of advice that I could ever give anyone on the subject of building a band is to sort through and qualify your prospective band mates. Why is this important? Well as I mentioned earlier, a lot of time people will lie about what they are really capable of from a talent standpoint.

There are people out there that will gladly waste your time because they desperately want to be in a band without ever putting in the work to be good enough to be in a band. Plain and simply, these people would rather just try to look cool and say, “yeah, I’m in a band.”, rather than actually be a reliable contributing member of a band.
You certainly don’t need anyone like that in your band.

So not only do you need to come up with a method of qualifying these people, but it serves you best to do it in a systematic way. I’m big on systems because if you apply the same system to everyone, you’ll get definitive results from your research. However, I take things a step further.

I actually go as far as to automate my system for qualifying musicians. Now this can be super complicated and takes a lot of know-how. Which is exactly why I created the JamRoom Manifesto Course. You see, we as musicians have to put up with more time-wasting crap just to find the right people to join out band. I want to teach you how to shortcut the process!

What I’ll be teaching in the JamRoom Manifesto is how you can create and automated system for recruiting musicians into your band or project. Now you don’t have to buy the course, but those who do will have thorough knowledge on how to create their own system that attracts and qualifies potential band mates for them all on autopilot. Again, the concept of leveraging your time applies here. This is why automation is so important.

However if you don’t buy the course, you are basically handing over power to those who are serious about starting a band with top musicians while you still go out and try to do things the hard and old fashioned way.

Pay special attention to that last paragraph because within it lies a lesson on some of the things that I do to qualify people.
Okay I’ll just come out and say it… If you are not interested in educating yourself on a process that will make you a better band leader/ band mate then you are not qualified to be in my band. I hope that makes sense to you.

This is the same mentality that you need to approach your band with, as well as sending this message out to others who may be interested in your band. You need to have rules and requirements in place or you’ll just end up with a rag-tag bunch of players who don’t know how to get anything meaningful done.

The choice of course is yours. Do you want a band full of smart, educated and well seasoned musicians or do you want a band full of people that just don’t get it? All of this has to do with:

A) leveraging your time and
B) not allowing your time to be wasted by unqualified people.

Think about it… you’ve got goals you’re trying to achieve. Sort through the crap and find a few diamonds you can work with.

That’s what I do and that’s what The JamRoom Manifesto is all about.
